Paris Saint-Germain Defeat Marseille in French Ligue 1 Classic

Al-Taj News – Paris Saint-Germain deepened the woes of rivals Olympique Marseille, defeating them 2-1 at their home stadium and in front of their fans in the French Ligue 1 classic at the conclusion of the fifth round of the competition on Sunday evening.

Ferran Torres and Marquinhos scored the defending champions’ goals in the 66th and 74th minutes, while Ángel Gomes scored Marseille’s only goal in the 72nd minute.

Marseille completed the match with 10 men after their captain, Timothy Weah, was sent off in the 77th minute.

With this result, Paris Saint-Germain climbed to sixth place in the standings after raising their tally to eight points, securing their second consecutive victory in the domestic competition.

Meanwhile, Marseille’s struggles continued with a fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them on three points in 17th place, second from bottom. The 1993 European champions have thus found themselves early on in a battle to avoid the threat of relegation.
